In a powerful declaration, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has delivered a stern warning to sports federations operating outside the boundaries of the law. Namwamba, known for his commitment to transparency and accountability, urged all federations to strictly adhere to the Sports Act and questioned the reluctance of some entities to comply with the constitutional framework of Kenya.

Addressing representatives from various federations, Namwamba emphasized the need for sports organizations to respect and uphold the constitution, citing it as the fundamental basis for good governance.

He challenged those struggling to adhere to the law, asking them to reflect on the reasons behind their difficulties and make the necessary adjustments for the greater good of the sports community.

Furthermore, Namwamba revealed his active engagement with prominent international bodies such as FIFA and World Aquatics. He stressed the importance of maintaining positive relations with these organizations, indicating that the government would support federations committed to lawful practices and good governance.

The Sports CS made it clear that federations in compliance with the law had nothing to fear, assuring them that the government would not interfere with entities following proper procedures. However, he issued a direct warning to those veering off the legal path, stating unequivocally, “We will come for you.”

Namwamba underscored the significance of term limits within federations, urging leaders to respect and adhere to the constitutional provisions. For those with term limits in their constitutions, the Sports CS emphasized the obligation to vacate office once their stipulated term had concluded.

As the sports community awaits the unfolding developments, Namwamba’s warning serves as a call to action for federations to reevaluate their practices and ensure they align with the legal framework, fostering a culture of accountability and responsibility in Kenya’s sports landscape.
