In the past, Kenya’s Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat asserted that his squad had never engaged in a match against a European country. In fact, their first and only match against a European nation occurred in December 1983 when the Harambee Stars faced Switzerland.
Numerous football enthusiasts in Kenya have questioned Firat’s authority on the nation’s football heritage in response to his assertion.
