FKF Premier League: Omalla Ends Goal Drought in Gor Mahia’s Win

Benson Omalla’s lone goal in the 5th minute secured a much-needed win 1-0 for FKF Premier League leaders Gor Mahia against Nairobi City Stars in a tie played at the Machakos stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Kogallo came into the tie needing to end their two-game-winless run having held to a barren draw by Ulinzi Stars and losing 3-1 to Police FC in a fixture before that. Jonathan McKinstry needed his talisman to step up and he did turn up for the occasion to score early in the game and end his 7-match goal drought.

Omalla, who last scored from the spot against Nzoia Sugar in matchday 14 has had a fair share of troubles after his loan move to Algerian side, JS Saoura fell through in the 11th hour.

The Gor Mahia forward put the disappointment behind him to bag the 10th goal of the season and extend his side’s lead at the top of the table to 8 points. Gor Mahia now sits on 47 points after 22 rounds with the best defensive record.

Elsewhere, Posta Rangers’s 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars moved them to second on the log leapfrogging Nairobi City Stars. Felix Oluoch scored the only goal of the match from the spot in the 15th minute.

In another fixture, Police FC piled more misery on Shabana FC after beating them 1-0 at the Police Sacco Stadium. Disgruntled Shabana FC fans temporarily interrupted the match in the second half protesting the dismal run the club has endured since their return to topflight.

Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo’s side has only won one match since he took charge and only two in the last 10 games. David Okoth delivered the sucker punch in the 11th minute to give Salim Babu’s charges their fourth win in the last 5 games. Police FC currently sit third on 37 points and have the best attack record having scored 28 goals.
