In the verdant landscapes of Ivory Coast, where the heartbeat of African football echoes, a new chapter unfolds for Kenyan football. Dennis Oliech, the former captain of Harambee Stars, has declared his bid for the Football Kenya Presidency, injecting passion and purpose into the nation’s footballing narrative.
Oliech, a revered name in Kenyan football and a symbol of Harambee Stars’ glory days, believes that the past eight years have witnessed the nadir of football management in Kenya. In a candid interview with Citizen Tv’s Mike Okinyi, Oliech expressed his deep concern about the state of football in his homeland.
He asserted that former Kenyan footballers are earnestly deliberating on potential candidates, with Oliech, Macdonald Mariga, and Hussein Muhammed as frontrunners in the contest.
Notably, Oliech emphasized his support for Hussein Muhammed, the CEO of Extreme Sports, hailing him as the solitary football administrator capable of steering Kenya towards footballing prosperity.
Addressing questions from Ivory Coast, Oliech shared moments of embarrassment when foreign football legends questioned him about the state of Kenyan football, casting a shadow on the country’s football federation.
Intriguingly, Oliech revealed that his presence in the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast was courtesy of a sponsorship deal with Tekno, not the Kenyan Football Federation.
As the race for the Football Kenya Presidency gains momentum, Oliech’s entry promises a visionary kickoff for a footballing renaissance in Kenya, intertwining history and the beautiful game.
