In the fervor surrounding the location of the new Talanta Stadium, President William Ruto’s decision to build it in Nairobi, contrary to public sentiment favoring Mombasa, has sparked intense debates. While extreme sports CEO Hussein Mohammed championed Mombasa’s cause, practical considerations underscore the wisdom of constructing the stadium in Nairobi.
The original plan to erect the stadium in Shanzu, Mombasa, was met with enthusiasm from both locals and government officials who saw it as a boon for the coastal region. However, President Ruto’s announcement of relocating it to Nairobi, specifically his former village, brought forth strategic advantages.
Construction contractor, cautioning against the Mombasa shift, highlighted potential setbacks. Changing the location, they argued, would inflate costs and introduce a delay of over four months. The soil texture in the chosen Nairobi site also necessitates substantial groundwork for the project to proceed seamlessly.
President Ruto’s assurance of a scaled-down stadium for Mombasa, accommodating 20,000 to 30,000 spectators, mitigates concerns of regional disparity. In the grand scheme, choosing Nairobi for Talanta Stadium aligns with practicalities, ensuring timely completion and cost-effectiveness while promising equitable development for both regions.
