Richards Bay FC has officially secured the services of Kenya international forward Vincent Oburu ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

The 27-year-old striker, renowned for his pace and clinical finishing, joins the Natal Rich Boyz on a one-and-a-half-year deal, with an option to extend. Oburu impressed during a two-week assessment with the club, convincing the technical bench of his abilities.

This move marks a significant step in Oburu’s career, as he looks to make his mark in South Africa’s top-tier football. The forward was previously on the radar of AmaZulu FC last season, but negotiations fell through, leading him back to Zambia, where he featured for Napsa Stars on loan from ZESCO United.

Oburu’s professional journey began in Kenya, where he rose to prominence with AFC Leopards and later Wazito FC, earning a reputation as one of East Africa’s brightest football talents. His exploits at home and abroad have made him a key figure for Kenya’s national team, the Harambee Stars.

Richards Bay becomes Oburu’s new home, where he joins his compatriot and Harambee Stars teammate, goalkeeper Ian Otieno, who is already part of the squad.

The club will be hoping Oburu’s addition brings a fresh attacking spark to their lineup as they prepare for the second half of the season. His signing also underscores the growing recognition of Kenyan talent in the South African Premier Division.
