Extreme Sports Steps Up In Nakuru For The County Football Gala Awards

In order for grassroots clubs to achieve sustainability and self reliance, commercialization of the football across all levels is critical.

Extreme Sports Limited Chief Executive Officer and the founder of the renowned Super 8 Grassroots Football League Hussein Mohammed has laid emphasis on the need of putting in place a good governance structure in the running of football in Kenya noting that this is the key that will unlock growth of the good game in the country.

Hussein, who was represented by the company’s head of operations Mr. Athanas Obango as the chief guest and sponsor at the Nakuru Premier League Awards Gala, hosted by the Nakuru County Football Association at the Nakuru ASK Showgrounds on Saturday 18th November, 2023 said that World over, sports is a unifying factor that brings together people of all walks of life in every aspect and football being Kenya’s number one sport needs to have proper structures in the running of the game to ensure development in all parts of the country from the grassroots to the top level.

“To achieve meaningful development of the game, we must come down to good governance and indeed football has the potential to grow at all levels,”

Extreme sports being the chief guests at the awards gala which they sponsored with Ksh. 100,000 prize money alongside businessman Peter Kamau as the county football association sought to reward the best performing players who have excelled in the Nakuru Premier League throughout the year.

“We have been insisting that Kenya has football talent in all corners and football, and indeed all other sports can develop to greater heights if we have good governance in the running of our federations. This is not rocket science, we have competent people who can lead the sports federations in the right direction but we keep electing the wrong people to lead. It is time we wake up,”

Lauding the leadership of the Nakuru County Premier League for the flawless organization of the Nakuru Premier League, Hussein said that indeed, with a sound leadership, Kenyan youth have a chance to develop careers in football and called on football stakeholders to ensure that they carefully scrutinize those who offer themselves for leadership to put in people who will work to grow football as opposed to the greedy individuals who only look at corruptly enriching themselves at the expense of innocent youth who deserve a chance to develop their talent.

As CEO of Extreme Sports, Hussein founded the Grassroots Football League Super 8 which this year celebrated it’s 20th anniversary. Through Super 8 League, more than 20 players have risen from playing in the Grassroots to the top level in the premier league and the national team Harambee Stars by providing visionary leadership with an aim to providing opportunities for the youth to eke out a living out of their talent and empower them both socially and economically keeping them away from societal vices like substance abuse and crime.
